Cookies

This page lists what is set and what is contacted when you open this site. We inspected the network traffic of the page as it is actually served, rather than copy a generic list from somewhere else.

The short version

No Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no TikTok Pixel, no Google Ads. There is no advertising tracker and no retargeting tag on this site. Your browser contacts three parties in total: Shopify, which runs the store; Shop Pay, and only if you choose it at checkout; and Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces.

What a cookie is doing here

A cookie is a small file the site asks your browser to keep. On a store, it is what makes the cart survive a page change, keeps you in the same session through checkout and stops the same order from being placed twice.

Shopify, and it is necessary

The store runs on Shopify, and Shopify sets the cookies that make it work: what is in your cart, your session, the checkout step you reached, and the security checks that protect the payment page. Shopify also collects first-party usage data through its own endpoints, monorail-edge.shopifysvc.com and otlp-http-production.shopifysvc.com: which pages are opened, from which kind of device. That is how we know which guides get read. It belongs to the store, not to an ad network. Images, font files and scripts are served from cdn.shopify.com.

These cookies are necessary. Without them there is no cart and no checkout.

Shop Pay, only if you use it

Shop Pay is one of the accelerated checkout options. If you choose it, shop.app sets what it needs to recognize you and fill in your details. If you never choose it, it never applies to you.

Google Fonts, a third party worth knowing about

The typefaces are loaded from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Loading them sends your IP address to Google, a third party we do not control. No advertising cookie is set by this, and nothing else about you is sent, but an IP address is personal data and you should know that it leaves. This is the only host outside Shopify that your browser contacts on an ordinary visit.

Turning cookies off

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings and then Privacy. Blocking them here has a cost: the cart empties between pages and checkout stops working, because those cookies are what carry your order. Opening the site in a private window is the middle ground, since everything is cleared when you close it.

If this ever changes

The day we add a tool that sets a cookie or sends data anywhere else, this page is updated before that tool goes live, and our Privacy Policy is updated with it. The two are written together so they can never contradict each other.
